9/11 & HOPE

23 years later, 9/11 still shines a light on the fact that first responders run into danger in hopes to save lives. Bravery is a part of first responders lives and very much a part of all cancer patients lives. Every day they rise to the occasion to choose to be brave and have hope.

9/11 was one of the darkest days in the history of the United States. For those of us who experienced it first hand, it was a day filled with thousands of emotions. Despite the devastation, we worked together and came together to help each other. Our country stood strong and united. There were many heroes born on 9/11.

9/11 always makes me reflect on our ability to overcome obstacles and hope for the future. Every day my cancer patients and their families show great strength and persevere through good and bad times. They overcome so much from the initial diagnosis of cancer and learning about adjunct treatments with repurposed medications to achieve better than standard of care outcomes. My patients and their families work hard, never give up and always have hope. They are truly resilient and inspirational.

Every year on 9/11, the Beams of Light shine from lower Manhattan where the Twin Towers stood and I call it the Beams of Hope for all of us. Hope that we can pull together and help one another get through anything. Out of the ruins of 9/11, we are able to find hope and out of every diagnosis of cancer, there is hope! Never give up your hope!!
